We set off yesterday from Forbes a bit after 8am heading for Menindee - well, actually we weren't quite sure where we were going to spend the night at that stage as we had 670 kms to drive and we didn't know what the condition of the Ivanhoe to Menindee road was. We stopped in Lake Cargelligo for fuel and Bob discovered the first problem with the trailer. This trailer is quite unique you know and has pneumatic shock absorbers! The problem was that one of the valves had collapsed and the air had escaped! If it couldn't be sorted out then we had a problem! He went to the local Dunlop Tyre service place and was able to sort out the problem with a replacement valve! Good old Bob! On to Hillston where we stopped for lunch by the banks of the Lachlan and then set forth for Bob's old home town of Ivanhoe. By this stage we had decided that we would push on to Menindee for the night.
On the way into Ivanhoe we stopped off at the station where Bob did a bit of reminiscing about the old days. He also had a few memories surrounding the derelict old 'Railway Institute' building which is now in a very bad state of repair!
We heard that the road from there to Menindee was in a terrible state but undaunted we pressed on after having booked ourselves a cabin 15 kms out of Menindee.
Well, the road was in a VERY bad state and about 60 kms east of M and after hitting a couple of major potholes, the hazard lights started blinking and Bob decided to stop the car to sort out the problem. He then couldn't restart the car without the alarm coming on and so there we sat in the gathering gloom of night unable to start the car!! The alarm system in this car has been a bit of a problem from the start really. However, after about 30-40 minutes the car started without the alarm coming on and we were off! We were very glad to make it to the Copi Hollow Caravan Park and pleasantly surprised by the cabin we had booked - the only problem was that it didn't have an ensuite - and Fay and I didn't get a hot shower either!
In the morning we discovered that we were right on the shores of one of the big lakes and it was really quite lovely!
